I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I didn't go to the zoo today because the deal was Tanner had to eat his breakfast or he wasn't going to the zoo...so here I am. I had planned on networking, but instead, I got a phone call I was wanting to receive regarding a potential opportunity. I am pretty sure this is my "perfect job". So I had the freedom to speak with the person, uninterrupted and land a personal interview. I am not sure I would have been able to do that if I had been with 20+ kids at the zoo in this hellish heat (have I mentioned it's hot like a banshee?).
This opportunity was a result of networking...not mine, but a coworker's. The more people who know what you do and are capable of doing, the easier your search...because you won't be searching alone and it won't seem so overwhelming.
Reach out to everyone you know...again...and again...until you find a job. There are jobs out there, but people don't want to invest the time/money to filter through volumes of resumes. Make it easy. Be that perfect person. Approach them, don't wait to be approached. Offer them something you know they need then it's not like YOU really need the job, but THEY REALLY NEED YOU too. It's more of a trade.
Everyone of the CMXans who are reading this (and so far I only KNOW of 3 CMX followers and a longtime friend of mine...where's the love?) should know that they are the last ones left because they had something CMX could not be without - you are an asset. I know it doesn't really feel that way, but that is the reality. So know that you have something special to offer the next company - we are all talented, loyal people and we have something to offer. There is a quote I tell myself all the time (it's my mantra right now)...we are only given challenges in life because if are strong enough to endure them. We are all strong enough to handle this challenge. If you can't do it alone - we do it together. Chin up!

Hey Stacey, I wish you luck with your interview. You are right. Although it appears to be no jobs out there, it's only part true. My theory is we are coming into a time of major transition. I don't mean just locally, but globally.
ReplyDeleteThe ramifications are being felt in every working and nonworking class. Blue collar, white collar, or no collar; it is effecting us all. The need to change or adapt to the new age of business is important. Its kind of exciting and scary too, to be living in this place in time. Anyway sorry to be so long. Again good luck to you Stacey and keep in touch..nick
Business dynamics are changing. When the dust settles, things will definitely be different. It's my thought that contract workers will be utilized more, eliminating the need for FT employees (and the benefits) for a lot of overhead postions and even operations. Thanks for your comment!
